Celeb-Filled Poker Tourney Ends

Hundreds of celebrities from the worlds of film, television, sports and poker competed in the just-ended World Poker Tour (WPT) 5th Annual Invitational Celebrity Poker Tournament, and to no one’s surprise, a real poker player won it.
The three-day, no-limit Texas Hold ‘em event, which concluded earlier this week, was held at the Commerce Casino in Commerce, Calif., near Los Angeles.
Amateur poker player Adam Weinraub of Los Angeles topped the tournament field of 420 poker players and quasi-poker players to win the tourney’s first prize: $100,000 in cash and a free seat into the WPT’s $25,000-buy-in World Championship, to be held later this year.
Among the celebrities competing in the tournament whose main claim to fame is not poker were: Vince (”The Break-up”) Vaughn, Lou (”La Bamba”) Diamond Phillips, Jason (”Seinfeld”) Alexander, Paris (”The Simple Life”) Hilton, James (”Las Vegas”) Caan, Ed (”Lou Grant”) Asner, Jay (”Last Comic Standing”) Mohr, Willie (”Sex and the City”) Garson, Frances (”Titanic”) Fisher, James (”Shark”) Woods, Woody (”Cheers”) Harrelson, Camryn (”The Practice”) Manheim, Vince (”Rock ‘n Roll High School”) Van Patten, Dick (”Eight is Enough”) Van Patten, Larry (”Curb Your Enthusiasm”) David, Cheryl (”Curb Your Enthusiasm”) Hines, Mena (”Six Feet Under”) Suvari, Don (”Hotel Rwanda”) Cheadle, Hank (”Mad About You”) Azaria, Bai (”The Crow”) Ling and Morgan (”Falcon Crest”) Fairchild.

Among the celebrities competing in the tournament whose main claim to fame is poker were: poker professionals Mike Sexton, Phil “The Unabomber” Laak, Layne Flack, Paul Darden, Hoyt Corkins, Steve Paul Ambrose, Eric Lindgren, Karina Jett, Chip Jett, David Sklansky, J.C. Tran, Vanessa Rousso, Robert Mizrachi, John Phan, Allen Kessler and Evelyn Ng, as well as numerous poker amateurs.
Finishing as runnerup in the tourney to Weinraub was John “Miami” Cernuto, who took home $50,000 in cash.
Finishing third was Tim West, earning $20,000 in cash; finishing fourth was David Mosikian, earning $15,000 in cash; finishing fifth was Cassavetes, earning $10,000 in cash; and finishing sixth was Morshower, earning $5,000 in cash.
