New Jersey State Police have arrested four men, including a Las Vegas gaming consultant, on charges stemming from a high-tech poker scam at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, the Associated Press reported.
The arrests were made in June and details were just released, AP reported.
A spokesman for the State Attorney General’s Office, Peter Aseltine, said Steve Forte, 51, and the others had an illegal edge in big-stakes private poker games, AP reported.
The men used video cameras to peek at players’ hands, and then relayed information by radio to an accomplice who used a computer to decide how to play the hand and told the men, AP reported.
Forte, who lives in Las Vegas, is president of International Gaming Specialists, whose company website says the company helps gaming companies and law enforcement catch cheaters, AP reported.
Forte was charged with using a computer and cheating devices to commit theft, attempted theft by deception and conspiracy, AP reported.
Joseph T. Ingargiola, 50, of Playa del Ray, Calif., Stephen Phillips, 52, of Las Vegas, and James C. Harrison, 41, of Duluth, Minn., are facing the same charges, AP reported.
The poker games were held in a private hotel room at the casino, but not officially connected to the Borgata, AP reported.
The scam is similar to a poker scam that was the basis of the plot of an episode of the TV show “Las Vegas” last season.
