2 Champs Opt Out
Written by Tom Somach in Poker NewsBY TOM SOMACH
What big names from the world of professional poker are not in London, England, for the inaugural World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE)?
Probably the biggest name not there is Phil Ivey, the top black player in the world.
Ivey, originally from California but now a Las Vegas resident, has won five championship gold bracelets in the Las Vegas-based WSOP, although none were for the WSOP Main Event.
Also absent are Joe Hachem, Chris Moneymaker and Sam Farha.
Hachem, originally from Lebanon but now a resident of Melbourne, Australia, won the WSOP Main Event in 2005.
Moneymaker, from Tennessee, won the WSOP Main Event in 2003.
Farha, originally from Lebanon but now a resident of Houston, Texas, finished second at the 2003 WSOP Main Event, after a now-famous bluff by Moneymaker did him in.
Other notables not there are Dr. Jerry Yang, Gabe Kaplan, Thomas “Amarillo Slim” Preston Jr., Mike “The Mouth” Matusow, Mark Strahan and Mike Sexton.
