Another Poker Player Shot
Written by Tom Somach in Poker NewsA Texas man remained in critical condition Wednesday after he was shot twice during a robbery of a high-stakes poker game.
According to media reports, Charles Lineberry, 49, of San Antonio, Texas, USA, was shot twice in the upper chest early Tuesday morning after three masked gunmen broke into a house in San Antonio and robbed a high-stakes poker game involving about a dozen people.
The gunmen fired a number of shots outside the house before breaking in through a back door, interrupting a poker game in progress and declaring a robbery, the media reports said.
The gunmen then lined up all the poker players against a wall and robbed them, taking a total of about $3,000 from a cash box and players’ wallets, the reports said.
In the course of the robbery, one of the bandits shot Lineberry, who was later taken to a hospital, the reports said.
No one else was injured in the robbery, the media reports said.
The gunmen remain on the loose, the reports said.
According to police, the high-stakes poker game had a $300 buy-in, ensuring that a lot of cash was on the premises, the reports said.
Playing in illegal or unauthorized high-stakes private poker games in the U.S. continues to be dangerous.
Last week, three men in Florida were shot and killed during a big-money poker game after a fourth man they were playing with accused them of cheating and shot them.
