Van Nguyen, wife of top poker pro Men “The Master” Nguyen, recently became the first woman to win a World Poker Tour (WPT) event when she won the WPT’s Celebrity Invitational.
The tournament was held earlier this month at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles, California, USA.
For her big win, Nguyen–a Vietnamese name that is pronounced “win”–earned $100,000, plus a free seat at the upcoming $25,000 buy-in WPT Championship, to be held in April.
The Celebrity Invitational had a field of 445 entrants, some of whom were actors or other type celebrities, with the rest of the participants professional poker players.
Finishing in second place in the tournament after Nguyen was Ethan Ruby, who earned $50,000.
Coming in third was Billy Baxter, who took home $20,000.
Finishing fourth was Justin Marchand, who picked up $15,000.
Ending up in fifth spot was Elias Madias, who earned $10,000.
