Written by Tom Somach in Poker NewsTop poker pro Huck Seed has won the Main Event of the 2008 Canadian Open Poker Championships.
The Main Event, a $5,000 buy-in, no-limit Texas hold ‘em tourney with a field of 64 and total prize pool of $320,000, was held this week at the Deerfoot Inn & Casino in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Seed, an American, defeated Canadian poker star “Yukon” Brad Booth in a heads-up final match that lasted more than five hours.
For his big win, Seed collected $100,000.
“This was an amazing tournament in terms of both structure and quality of players,” Seed said.
“I love it when the cream rises to the top and I get a chance to play with the best in the world,” he said. “I am so happy that I finally won.”
Seed finished in third place at the Main Event of the first Canadian Open Poker Championships, two years ago.
His biggest poker tournament win to date was winning the Main Event of the 1996 World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas. =A0 For finishing in second place in the Main Event of the 2008 Canadian Open Poker Championships, Booth earned $50,000.
Coming in third was Graeme Putt, who won $30,000.
Finishing fourth was Gavin Smith, who also won $30,000.
Ending in fifth place was Nghi Van Tran, who took home $20,000.
Coming in sixth was 2005 WSOP Main Event winner Joe Hachem, who also earned $20,000.
Finishing in seventh spot was Van Marcus, who also made $20,000.
The eighth-place finisher was Shawn Buchanan, who also took home $20,000.
