Yet Another Poker Flick
Written by Tom Somach in Poker NewsDon’t look now, but yet another movie about poker is upon us.
This one is called “Deal,” and is set to open in movie theaters across the U.S. and Canada on April 25.
The movie stars Burt Reynolds, Bret Harrison and Shannon Elizabeth, who is a part-time poker pro in her spare time.
Making cameo appearances in the film are full-time professional poker players Greg “Fossilman” Raymer, Chris Moneymaker, Joe Hachem, Vince van Patten, Antonio “The Magician” Esfandiari and Phil “Unabomber” Laak.
The plot of the movie revolves around a hotshot young poker player (Harrison) who is taken under the wing of a seasoned professional (Reynolds).
The action ends up at–where else?–the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.
“Deal” is the third poker-themed movie to come along in recent months.
Earlier this year, “The Grand” premiered to mixed reviews.
And last year, “Lucky You” came out and was a bomb of Hiroshima-like proportion.
Critics have complained that there hasn’t been a good movie about poker since Matt Damon starred in “Rounders” 20 years ago.
