Break out the bratwurst and sauerkraut!

Germany has its first winner at the 2008 World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

Nix besser!

He is Jens Vortmann of Dortmund, Germany, and he is the winner of WSOP Event #22, a $3,000 buy-in, H.O.R.S.E. tournament that had 414 entrants, 40 payouts and a total prize pool of about $1.1 million.

Das wunderkind!

The H.O.R.S.E. tourney rotates among five different kinds of poker–hold ‘em, Omaha, razz, stud and 8-or-better stud.

For the victory, Vortmann collected a cool $298,253.

Ser gut!

Finishing second in the event was Doug Ganger of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, USA, earning $182,822.

Third was Marcel “The Flying Dutchman” Luske of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, earning $110,265.

Fourth was Hoyt Corkins of Las Vegas, earning $81,699.

Fifth was Jared Davis of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, earning $61,703.

Sixth was Steve Zolotow of Las Vegas, earning $47,991.

Seventh was Ross Tsodikov of Daly City, California, USA, earning $36,564.

Eighth was Jen Harman of Las Veggas, earning $30,851.

Ninth was Paul Zimbler of London, England, earning $25,138.

Tenth was Blair Rodman of Las Vegas, earning $25,138.

Well-known pros Todd “Son of Doyle”

Brunson came in 12th and Phil “Poison” Ivey came in 24th.
