Singer Does Victory Dance

Written by Tom Somach in Poker News

In the home of the some of the greatest entertainment in the world–Las Vegas–it’s only appropriate that a Singer has won a poker tournament.

He is David Singer, a Vegas resident no less, and he is the winner of Event #3 at the 2008 World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, a $1,500 buy-in, pot-limit Texas hold ‘em tourney that had 713 entrants and a total prize pool of just over $1 million.

For his big win, Singer takes home $214,131, and that’s something to sing about.

Finishing in second place in the tournament was Jacobo Fernandez of Hollywood, Florida, USA, who collected a not-too-shabby $136,643, almost 100 times his buy-in investment of $1,500.

Coming in third was Greg Alston of Miami Beach, Florida, USA, who won $82,725.

Ending fourth was Robby Lipkin of Buffalo Grove, Illinois, USA, who earned $67,640.

Taking fifth spot was Russel Harriman of Clarkston, Michigan, USA, who collected $55,474.

Finishing sixth was Joseph Tehan of Las Vegas, who copped $43,796.

Seventh went to Zachary “Carter” King of Marietta, Georgia, USA, who took home $34,063.

The No. 8 spot went to Al “Sugar Bear” Barbieri of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, who collected $26,764.

Finishing ninth was Glen Bean of Biggs, California, USA, who won $19,464.

Ending up 10th was Ryan Fair of Coral Springs, Florida, USA, who copped $12,165.

Americans did particularly well in the event.

Not only were the Top 10 finishers all U.S. residents, so were 41 of the Top 50 finishers.

The highest-ranking non-American–a Swedish resident–came in in 14th place.

As for Singer, this is his first championship gold WSOP bracelet, and the second event at this year’s WSOP in which he has cashed out.

In WSOP Event #2 earlier this week, a $1,500 buy-in, no-limit Texas hold ‘em tournament that had almost 4,000 entrants, he finished in 353rd place and won $2,950.

All told, he has now finished in the money in 17 WSOP events over the years, including his biggest WSOP cashes, $337,440, for coming in sixth in last year’s $50,000 buy-in H.O.R.S.E. tourney and $411,840 for coming in sixth in the same event in 2006.

He also finished ninth in the 2003 WSOP Main Event (a tourney famously won by Chris Moneymaker) and collected $120,000.

In addition to his WSOP earnings, records show he has also moneyed in 25 other poker tournaments, including earning a cool million bucks for winning a tourney at Caesars Palace in Vegas last year and earning $436,200 for winning a World Poker Tour (WPT) event in 2006.

According to the records, his lifetime poker tournament earnings for all events is just over $3.7 million.

Not too shabby for a Vegas poker room Singer.
