Written by Tom Somach in Poker NewsThe 41st tournament at the 2008 World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas had a distinct international flavor–five different nations were represented among the Top 10 finishers.
Poker players from the USA, Canada, Germany, Sweden and Ireland all finished in the Top 10 in WSOP Event #41, a $1,000 buy-in, mixed-limit Texas hold ‘em tournament that had 731 entrants, 72 payouts and a total prize pool of about $1 million.
A mixed-limit tourney alternates between limit and no-limit hold ‘em.
The winner of Event #41 was Frank Gary of Ft. Myers, Florida, USA, earning $219,562.
It’s his first WSOP championship gold bracelet in his career.
He is 42 and calls himself a professional poker player.
Runnerup in the event Jonathon Tamayo of Humble, Texas, USA, being very humble after winning $140,093.
Third was Nick Binger of Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, nicking a nice $84,841.
Fourth was Chris Rentes of Kinnegad, Ireland, landing $69,348.
Fifth was Alex Jalali of Bochum, Germany, quite jolly after winning $56,875.
Sixth was Dave MacHowsky of Kettering, Ohio, USA, making $44,902.
Seventh was Mats Gavatin of Lidingo, Sweden, who was given $34,923.
Eighth was Mike Chu of Los Angeles, California, USA, chewing on $27,439.
Ninth was Dave Sorger of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, not sore about earning $19,956.
Tenth was Todd Witteles of Las Vegas, using his wits to earn $12,472.
