Drive Ford to Victory
Written by Tom Somach in Poker NewsWagering odds have been set on who from the final table will win the 2008 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event.
The Main Event final table of nine players was set last week, but won’t play down to a winner until November.
The 117-day break–done for the first time in the 39-year history of the WSOP–is intended by the WSOP to increase interest in the final table playoff.
On one level that strategy has already worked, because online sports betting sites have set odds on the final table members winning the Main Event, something not done in the past when there were only a few hours between the final table being determined and the final table playing down to one winner.
Paddy Power (www.paddypower.com), an Irish online sportsbook, is just one of many Internet books to install final table odds, but their odds are typical of how the online sports betting industry is seeing the final table members’ chances to go all the way.
Here’s how Paddy Power sees it:
DENNIS “FORDMAN”=9D PHILLIPS, 53, of Cottage Hills, Illinois, USA, the final table chip leader with about 26 million chips, is the Main Event co-favorite at 4-1 odds. That means if you wager $100 on him with Paddy Power to win the Main Event and he does, you earn a profit of $400.
IVAN DEMIDOV, 23, of Moscow, Russia, with about 24 million chips, is the other Main Event co-favorite, also at 4-1 odds.
SCOTT “RAY”=9D MONTGOMERY, 26, of Perth, Ontario, Canada, with about 20 million chips, is listed at 9-2 odds. That means if you wager $100 on him with Paddy Power to win the Main Event and he does, you earn a profit of $450.
PETER EASTGATE, 22, of Odense, Denmark, with about 18 million chips, is also listed at 9-2 odds.
YLON SCHWARTZ, 38, of New York City, New York, USA, with about 13 million chips, is listed at 8-1 odds. A successful $100 wager on him to go all the way will earn a profit of $800.
DARUS SUHARTO, 39, of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, originally from Indonesia, with about 13 million chips, is listed at 17-2 odds. A successful $100 wager on him to go all the way will earn a profit of $850.
DAVID “CHINO”=9D RHEEM, 28, of Los Angeles, California, USA, with about 10 million chips, is listed at 10-1 odds. A successful $100 wager on him with Paddy Power will earn a profit of $1,000 if he wins the Main Event.
CRAIG MARQUIS, 23, of Arlington, Texas, USA, with about 10 million chips, is also listed at 10-1 odds.
KELLY KIM, 31, of Whittier, California, USA, originally from South Korea, has the table’s low stack, with about 3 million chips. He is listed at a whopping 50-1 odds to go all the way, so if you feel lucky and he gets lucky, a $100 wager will earn a profit of $5,000.
