Gambler Raises Stink

Written by Tom Somach in Poker News

An overweight man playing poker at the Borgata Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA, was ejected from the casino Tuesday for smelling up the place.

According to a report by the Associated Press, 440-pound Michael Wax, 54, of New York City, New York, USA, had been playing poker at the Borgata for 17 straight hours Tuesday when he was asked to leave because other casino patrons complained about his foul smell.

Wax, a limousine company owner, said a poker room manager followed him into the restroom and informed him that other poker players at his table were complaining about his body odor, the A.P. reported.

When Wax tried to retake his seat at the poker table in the Borgata’s poker room, he was told by a manager to leave, the A.P. reported.

The Borgata is also a hotel and when Wax asked for a free hotel room to shower so he could clean up and return to playing poker, he was refused, the A.P. reported.

Wax said he told casino officials, “There’s no question I stink. I’m not denying it. I do have an odor. I’ve been playing for 17 hours,” the A.P. reported.

After his ejection, Wax filed a complaint with the New Jersey Casino Control Commission, which has offices in every Atlantic City casino, the A.P. reported.

A Commission spokesman said the complaint would be reviewed to determine if any state gambling laws or regulations were violated, the A.P. reported.

It was not immediately known whether Wax would also sue the casino.

He told the A.P.: “I would like an apology.”
