The second annual World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) Main Event will
not have a repeat winner.
Annette Obrestad, the Norwegian poker prodigy who stunned the poker
world last year when she won the Main Event at the inaugural WSOPE at
age 18, will not repeat that achievement this year.

There’s ancient Doyle “Texas Dolly” Brunson, with his signature white

Lobby group the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) spent more than a quarter
of a million dollars in the second quarter of 2008 to lobby on behalf of
online poker, according to a disclosure report the PPA filed.
Specifically, the PPA spent $283,000 from April 1-June 30, 2008, to
lobby the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives in favor of
licensed and regulated Internet poker in the USA, the report stated.

A court hearing scheduled for this week in Kentucky to determine whether
the state can confiscate more than 100 Internet domain names being used
for illegal online gambling has been continued until next month.

Jesper Hougaard has become the first person in history to win an event
at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas and an event at the
World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) in London.
Hougaard, from Copenhagen, Denmark, in June won Event #36 at the 2008
WSOP, a $1,500 buy-in, no-limit Texas hold ‘em tournament that earned
him $610,304.

The State of Kentucky is trying to stop online poker and other forms of
online gambling by seizing the domain names of Internet gambling sites
that operate in the state.
According to media reports, Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear has asked a
Franklin County Circuit Court judge to give the state control of 141
domain names for gambling websites that operate in Kentucky.

Jason Kellerman, chief executive officer of Pure Play
(www.pureplay.com), a so-called “legal” online poker room based in the
USA, will be a featured speaker at the upcoming seventh annual European
i-Gaming Congress and Expo in Barcelona, Spain, event organizers
announced.
Kellerman is to discuss the legislative landscape for online gaming in
the United States, they said.

The 2008 Borgata Open Main Event, a massive poker tournament held last
week at the Borgata casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA, was won by
Vivek Rajkumar.
For the big victory, Rajkumar, 22, from Seattle, Washington, USA, earned
a whopping $1,424,500.

underway in London, England, is expected to be the most widely-viewed
poker tournament in television history, according to WSOPE officials.
American cable sports network ESPN, which did not televise the initial
WSOPE last year, is planning to televise this year’s WSOPE.

the Empire Casino in London, England,=A0 Friday with the start of the
first of four tournaments.
Event #1, a no-limit Texas hold ‘em tourney with a buy-in of 1,500
British pounds (about 3,000 U.S. dollars), began and opened the WSOPE
action.

An accused poker bandit, who was facing 52 criminal charges for a poker
game robbery earlier this year, has now been hit with 30 more criminal
charges, bringing the total number of criminal charges against him to
82.
According to media reports, Michael Joseph Campher, 22, of Hagerstown,
Maryland, USA, was arrested on 52 criminal counts shortly after the May
30 armed robbery.

he’d likely be voting for Barack Obama for President, appears to be
backing off that vow and reversing himself.
In his latest blog post, Brunson now says: “It’s hard not to be in

poker room on Saturday.
The poker room is the first for the casino whose brand name “Hard Rock”
is best known for its American cuisine restaurants around the world that
feature displays of rock ‘n roll memorabilia.

he was involved in the armed robbery of a country club poker game last
February.
He faces up to 50 years in prison for the heist.

A man who stole $2,000 from a video poker machine in Saipan was
sentenced this week to 10 years in prison.
According to media reports out of Saipan, the capital city of the
Northern Mariana Islands, an island chain nation in the South Pacific,
Jesse Saralu staged the daring daylight robbery at a poker arcade in
Saipan on March 21, 2008.

A woman accused of stealing $27,000 from a West Virginia poker game last
year pleaded guilty this week to armed robbery.
According to media reports, Jacqueline Dennis, 28, and another woman,
Kimberly Steinbrecher, 45, were each carrying pistols when they robbed a
group of men playing poker in a storage building in Hurricane, West
Virginia, USA, in November of 2007.

A charity poker tournament held in the midst of the Republican National
Convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, USA, last week raised
almost twice as much money as a similar event held a week earlier in the
midst of the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado, USA.
The Poker Players Alliance (PPA), a lobby group for legislation favoring
online poker, held charity poker tournaments at both conventions to
raise money for the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA), a military aid
group.

poker pros to serve as poker ambassadors for the tour.
Poker pros J.C. Tran, Nam Le and Quinn Do are the new flacks, the APT

Launched in 2006, it signed up its one millionth member in 2007 and now,
