2M For PKR
Written by Tom Somach in Poker NewsOnline poker room PKR Poker (www.pkr.com) has announced that is has signed up its two millionth member.
Launched in 2006, it signed up its one millionth member in 2007 and now, less than a year later, has reached the two million member mark, the room announced.
What makes the milestone extra impressive is the fact that PKR Poker does not accept customers from the USA, yet still was able to acheive two million members, the room announced.
The two largest online poker rooms on the Internet, Poker Stars (www.pokerstars.com) and Full Tilt Poker (www.fulltiltpoker.com), accept customers from the USA. Anti-online gambling legislation passed by the U.S. Congress earlier this decade caused many online poker rooms to stop accepting customers from the USA.
“Only a handful of poker brands have ever reached this milestone, and none have done it so quickly and without taking U.S. players,” said PKR Poker marketing director Simon Prodger. “We are delighted with our progress and look forward to making our third year even better.”
In addition, PKR Power is the second-fastest growing online poker room in the online poker industry, Prodger said.
He also noted that the surging popularity of PKR Poker may be due, in part, to the online poker room having its own one-hour, weekly television program about poker that is broacast in Europe.
Then there’s the “gimmick” factor, and at least a few online poker players get sucked in by that.
PKR Power calls itself a “3-D poker room” because of graphics which make its online poker tables look three-dimensional.
