Reversal of Fortune?
Written by Tom Somach in Poker NewsPoker legend Doyle “Texas Dolly” Brunson, who earlier this year hinted he’d likely be voting for Barack Obama for President, appears to be backing off that vow and reversing himself.
In his latest blog post, Brunson now says: “It’s hard not to be in McCain’s camp.”
Months ago, Brunson wrote on his blog–his web log or online diary–that although he is a lifelong Republican, he would probably be voting this year for the Democratic Presidential candidate for the first time in his life.
Obama, Brunson wrote, is preferable because he would be better for the online gambling business (Brunson flacks for the online poker room Doyle’s Room).
Then last month, on his blog, Brunson blasted Obama’s choice of Joe Biden to be his running mate, but didn’t say he was switching his vote.
In his latest blog entry, however, which was posted on his blog at www.doylesroom.com last Friday, Brunson wrote: “It’s hard to believe, but McCain has taken the lead in the Presidential race. They rolled the dice when they chose Governor Palin to run for Vice-President and they threw a seven, because she really turned things around for the Republicans.”
Brunson then continued: “It’s hard not to be in McCain’s camp after listening to his life story. He really is an American hero. I’m not sure either Presidential candidate is the right person to lead our country over the next few years.”
Brunson then concludes his political analysis with some wishful thinking: “I wish Hillary was still in the mix because that would mean Bill would be around and he proved he could lead us.”
Brunson’s apparent support of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as McCain’s running mate–using craps parlance he called her a “seven,” the best roll in that dice game–is a direct contrast to the comments recently made by another top poker pro on his blog.
Earlier this month, on his blog at www.fulltiltpoker.com, poker pro Daniel “Kid Poker” Negreanu blasted Palin and said the only reason she was picked as McCain’s running mate is because she “has a vagina.”
