Soft-Core Poker
Written by Tom Somach in Poker NewsA Hollywood production company has signed a deal to produce a new reality television show about poker.
Circa PIctures and Production Company International Inc. announced this week in a press release that it has signed an exclusive option agreement for a new reality TV show called “Lucky 7 Pro.”
There are enough–more than enough, according to some–poker shows on television that feature a bunch of people sitting around a table playing poker.
So what’s the big deal then about this new show?
It will be a program with a different slant, according to Circa’s head man.
Constantine Papadepoulos, chief executive officer of Circa, is quoted in the release saying: “Poker programming has become a successful staple to the small screen and has many followers. When we first saw the format for ‘Lucky 7 Pro,’ we realized this program concept kicked basic poker programming up two major notches and sets it apart from all the rest, without losing the basic fan base.
“Now, poker can also gain appeal among the audiences of reality programming. ‘Lucky 7 Pro’ will begin as an elimination contest, where we will seek out and then find the best seven amateur female players. Then we will syndicate these amateurs into the tournament and professional play circuits, all the while keeping the cameras rolling in and out of the casino play.
“It is the first hybrid poker reality program. We will be going past the camera shots of the table and cards and go into the lives of our new found players as they play as a team and develop into a unit.”
So will there be an audience for this type of programming?
Perhaps.
The show sounds sort of like “Survivor, poker-style,” except that instead of getting voted off an island, the contestants get booted from the poker table when they lose all their chips.
Knowing Hollywood, however, the show will more likely turn out to be a cross between “Poker After Dark” and “Girls Gone Wild.”
According to the release, the show will seek out “the best seven amateur female players.”
Oh, really?
Don’t expect any of those seven “amateur female players” to be ugly or fat, regardless of how good a poker player she is.
Knowing the realities of Hollywood and how it thinks, it’s a 100% guarantee that all seven contestants will be attractive and thin.
And likely wearing skimpy outfits.
But will they really be the seven best amateur female poker players out there?
It depends on what your definition of “best” is.
The seven female amateurs who are best at playing poker?
Not likely.
The seven female amateurs who look best playing poker?
That’s one bet you can go all-in on.
