about cheating in online gambling is scheduled to air this Sunday,
November 30, 2008, at 7 p.m. Eastern Time in the USA.
PokerHelper.com previously reported that “60 Minutes” was investigating
the issue and working on a segment about it for an upcoming telecast.

Canada’s best-known poker pro, Daniel “Kid Poker” Negreanu, has won the
Main Event at the 2008 British Columbia Poker Championships (BCPC).
The Main Event, a no-limit Texas hold ‘em tournament that had a buy-in
of $2,500 and a field of 690 entrants, concluded Sunday at the River
Rock Casino Resort in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada.

Evern van Niekerk is the winner of the All-Africa Poker Tournament, a
no-limit Texas hold ‘em tourney that was held November 13-16, 2008, at
the Piggs Peak Casino in Swaziland, a country in southern Africa.
It was one of the richest poker tournaments ever held on the continent
of Africa, featuring 117 participants and distributing a total of 3.5
million South African rand–about 350,000 U.S. dollars–in prize monies.

Professional poker player and beauty pageant winner Cyclona “Clonie”
Gowen has filed a $40 million lawsuit against online poker room Full
Tilt Poker (www.fulltiltpoker.com), whom she flacked for until being
fired earlier this month.
The twice-divorced Gowen, of Dallas, Texas, USA, given her first name
because she was born during a cyclone, has won nearly a million dollars
in her career playing tournament poker. At age 15, she won the Miss Teen
Oklahoma beauty pageant. Still photogenic at age 37, she is a staple of
televised poker matches.

A woman has been sentenced to 10 years to life in prison for stabbing
her husband–a professional poker player–to death in a Las Vegas,
Nevada, USA, condominium last year.
According to media reports, Jill Rockcastle, 50, was sentenced Tuesday
by Clark County District Court Judge Michael Villani.

An American college basketball player who lost $600 gambling online will
not be disciplined because he lost the money playing poker, not betting
on sporting events.
According to media reports, Nick Calathes, a guard on the University of
Florida basketball team in Gainesville, Florida, USA, was investigated
by the school’s athletic department, after rumors swirled on campus that
he had run up a large debt gambling online.

Television viewer ratings for Tuesday’s telecast on ESPN of the World
Series of Poker (WSOP) final table were up about 50% over last year’s
telecast, ESPN announced.
ESPN credited the ratings increase mainly to the fact that the telecast
aired on the same day final table play finished instead of months later,
as had been done in the past.

Peter Eastgate, who earlier this week won the Main Event of the 2008
World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, is the first
Danish poker player ever to win a WSOP Main Event.
And he is also just the second Dane to win any WSOP tournament. (Earlier
at this year’s WSOP, Jesper Hougaard of Copenhagen, Denmark, won a
no-limit Texas hold ‘em tourney. Hougaard also won a no-limit Texas hold
‘em tourney at the 2008 World Series of Poker Europe in London,

Action was suspended at the WSOP in July after the starting field for
the WSOP Main Event was whittled from 6,844 players to a final table of
nine players.

Shakopee, Minnesota, USA, recently held its 2008 Fall Classic, an annual
no-limit Texas hold ‘em poker tournament with a buy-in of $1,000.
This year’s event had 263 entrants and a total prize pool of $255,110.

The Poker Hall of Fame in Las Vegas, which is to add two new members
later this month, is a bizarre collection of historical poker names from
past and present.
Among others, there are a brat (Phil “Poker Brat” Hellmuth Jr.,
enshrined in 2007), a child molester (Thomas “Amarillo Slim” Preston
Jr., enshrined in 1992) and even a 19th-century murderer who himself was
murdered while playing poker (James B. “Wild Bill” Hickok, enshrined in
1979).

members this month.
Harrah’s Entertainment, Inc., owner of the Poker Hall of Fame as well as
the World Series of Poker (WSOP), announced Friday that the 2008 Hall of
Fame inductees are Duane “Dewey” Tomko and Herb Orenstein.
