Big Bucks at Stake
Written by Tom Somach in Poker NewsFor the nine players making up the final table at the Main Event of the 2008 World Series of Poker (WSOP), which resumes next week in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, all but one are guaranteed to become millionaires–if they aren’t ones already.
Thousands of people entered the WSOP Main Event when it got underway in July.
After the field was whittled to the final nine, a 114-day break ensued.
Now, play resumes on Sunday, at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino.
That Main Event winner will receive a WSOP championship gold bracelet, bragging rights as winner of not just the Main Event but of the whole WSOP and, last but not least, a cash prize of over nine million bucks–$9,119,517 to be exact!
The Main Event runnerup won’t do too poorly either–he will snag a whopping $5,790,024.
The third-place finisher will get $4,503,352.
The fourth-place finisher will get $3,763,515.
The fifth-place finisher will get $3,088,012.
The sixth-place finisher will get $2,412,510.
The seventh-place finisher will get $1,769,174.
The eighth-place finisher will get $1,286,672.
The ninth-place finisher will be the only finisher out of the Top Nine not to earn at least a million bucks.
The No. 9 finisher will get “only” $900,670.
For those keeping track, that’s more than $30 million that will be doled out just to the Final Table occupants.
The Main Event is a no-limit Texas hold ‘em tournament with a buy-in of $10,000.
