An analysis by American accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers has found
that the USA could receive as much as $52 billion in Federal revenue
over the next decade if Internet gambling is regulated and taxed.
The study was commissioned by the UC Group, a British online payment
processor.

A professional poker player suspected of killing his mother and poker
pro father last year in California has been arrested and charged in the
slayings.
According to media reports, police on Tuesday arrested Ernest Scherer
III, 30, of Brea, California, USA, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, and
charged him in the murders of his parents, Ernest Scherer Jr., 60, and
Charlene Abendroth, 57.

A professional poker player who participated in the 2007 World Series of
Poker (WSOP) Main Event has pleaded guilty to drug charges.
According to media reports, poker pro Daniel “Gomez” Schleben of Ten
Mile, Tennessee, USA, last week pleaded guilty in Federal court in
Knoxville, Tennessee, USA, to conspiracy to distribute cocaine.

Professional poker player Zachary “Carter” King has been identified as
one of the eight people arrested in connection with the now-famous photo
of Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps smoking pot.
According to media reports, eight people were arrested on February 7,
2009, on drug charges and all were connected to an off-campus house
party last November at the University of South Carolina, in Columbia,
South Carolina, USA, where Phelps was photographed smoking marijuana
from a bong or water pipe.

A former poker room supervisor at the Borgata casino in Atlantic City,
New Jersey, USA, has been sentenced to nine months in prison for his
role in a sports betting operation that was run out of the Borgata poker
room and later busted by police.
According to media reports, former
Borgata poker room supervisor Joseph Wishnick, 44, of Brigantine, New
Jersey, USA, was sentenced Friday to nine months in prison followed by
27 months of probation.

A Montana woman who was arrested for stabbing a man is the sister of
professional poker player Jesse Petrakis, PokerHelper.com has learned
exclusively.
Sarah Petrakis, 22, of Butte, Montana, USA, was arrested last month and
charged with assault with a weapon after an altercation at the Kingpin
Lounge and Lanes, a combination bar and bowling alley in Butte.

A man who held a charity poker tournament for the family of a child
killed in a crash has been arrested for keeping the tournament proceeds.
According to media reports, Matthew William Keysacker, 30, of Aurora,
Colorado, USA, was arrested Monday and charged with computer crime and
theft by deception, both felonies, after allegedly keeping $3,455 in
proceeds from a charity poker tournament he held in December of 2008 for
the family of Marten Kudlis.

In a bizarre posting on his blog (web log), poker pro Daniel “Kid Poker”
Negreanu, one of the most successful poker players on the planet and a
multi-millionaire, claims his cheap-but-ailing mother won’t let him pay
her medical bills.
After recently suffering a heart attack and a stroke at home in Las
Vegas, where both now live, Negreanu’s mom decided to return to Canada,
where both used to live, because medical treatment under the Canadian
socialized medicine system is cheaper than in the USA, Negreanu writes
on his blog at Full Contact Poker (www.fullcontactpoker.com.).

More than two dozen celebrities are scheduled to participate in a
charity golf and poker tournament, as part of the festivities
surrounding next Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game in Phoenix, Arizona, USA.
The tourney, dubbed “Par and Poker,” is scheduled for Friday, February
13, 2009, in suburban Chandler, Arizona, USA, event organizers
announced.
The twin tourney kicks off with an 18-hole golf tournament at the
Whirlwind Golf Club and then concludes with a no-limit Texas hold ‘em
poker tournament at the Gila River Indian casino.

Poker legend Doyle “Texas Dolly” Brunson has come to the defense–sort
of–of disgraced Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps, who recently lost a
sponsorship deal with Kellog’s after being photographed smoking
marijuana.
On his blog, his web log or online diary, at Doyle’s Room
(www.doylesroom.com), the online poker room he flacks, Brunson wrote:
“Michael Phelps is getting a lot of flak about his picture smoking dope.
It’s too bad, he is a nice kid but he has to realize his every move is
scrutinized and he can’t make mistakes like that. He has lost lots of
money because he has lost some major endorsement deals. I think Michael
will get back on track.
Remember, he is a 23-year-old kid.”

celebrity shills for the room.
Dennis “Fordman” Phillips and Ylon Schwartz, who both made the Main
Event final table of nine at the 2008 WSOP in Las Vegas, have been hired
to flack for Poker Stars, the room announced.

13-17, 2009, at the Stampede Casino in Calgary, Alberta, Canada,

buy-in, no-limit Texas hold ‘em heads-up tourney.

financial manager Bernard Madoff.
According to media reports, poker pro Lyle Berman, who was elected to
the Poker Hall of Fame in 2002, is one of thousands of names on an
official list of clients scammed by Madoff.

The former mayor of a British town has admitted to embezzling almost
$60,000 in order to play online poker.
According to media reports, Jayne Prewitt, 49, who was mayor of
Carlisle, England, from 1993 to 1994, admitted in court this week to
stealing 38,000 British pounds, equal to about $56,000 U.S., from a
social club in Carlisle called the South End Constitutional Club, where
she was a bartender.
