Poker pro and TV poker host Mike Sexton, who formerly shilled for online
poker room Party Poker (www.partypoker.com) but parted ways with the
room after it ran into legal trouble, will shill for the room again.
Party Poker announced this week that Sexton, best known as the TV host
for televised World Poker Tour (WPT) events, is returning as a paid
flack.

Six years after an unknown Tennessee accountant named Chris Moneymaker
won the World Series of Poker Main Event and sparked a poker boom
throughout the world, poker is coming to prime time network television
in America for the first time.
NBC announced this week that it will air a show about poker in prime
time in August.

The commissioner of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) has blasted a comic
who made jokes on television about poker players.
WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack said Tuesday he is miffed at
comedienne Joan Rivers for making disparaging comments Sunday on the
American reality television show “Celebrity Apprentice.”

The former mayor of a British town has been sentenced to a year in
prison for stealing 38,000 British pounds (about $56,000) to feed an
addiction to online poker.
According to media reports, Jayne Armstrong-Yeomans, 49, the former
mayor of Carlisle, England, stole the money in 2007 from a social club
where she ran the bar, after becoming addicted to Internet poker and
racking up gambling debts of about 60,000 pounds (about $90,000).

charged 21 people with gambling offenses.
According to media reports, members of the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s
Office’s Vice and Narcotics Unit raided a private house in Spartanburg,
South Carolina, USA, on Monday night that was suspected of hosting
illegal poker games.

set to debut in August.
The Latin Series of Poker, or LSOP, is set to debut with an event at the

The parent company of online poker room Party Poker (www.partypoker.com)
and other online gambling websites has agreed to pay the U.S. government
more than $100 million in fines for illegally offering online gambling
to U.S. residents.
According to media reports, Party Poker parent company Party Gaming PLC,
a British firm, will pay $105 million to the U.S. government for
offering online poker and other online casino games to U.S. residents in
violation of U.S. law between 1997 and 2006.

The State of Texas on Thursday officially took the first step towards legalizing poker.
According to media reports, a bill that would legalize the game was approved by the Texas State House of Representatives committee that oversees gambling issues, the Licensing and Administrative Procedures Committee, by a vote of 6 to 3. (more…)

In a shocking post on her blog, poker pro Annie Duke admits her mother
is an alcoholic!
Writing on her blog at www.annieduke.com this week about the latest
episode of her TV show, “Celebrity Apprentice,” Duke expresses sympathy
for show castmate Dennis Rodman, whose own alcoholism was not only the
focus of last Sunday’s show but also got the former NBA player kicked
off the program.
In expressing that sympathy, Duke opens up about her own family and
reveals publicly for the first time that her own mother is also an
alcoholic, albeit in recovery.
