Hello, Dolly
Written by Tom Somach in Poker NewsComing soon to a TV near you: poker legend Doyle “Texas Dolly” Brunson selling toothpaste, beer, cars and underarm deodorant?
It just might be, as the multi-millionaire poker icon has just signed a representation deal with management agency Poker Royalty of Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Writing on his blog at www.doylesroom.com, Brunson on Monday revealed: “I signed on with Poker Royalty yesterday. Poker Royalty represents quite a few poker players in making deals for their endorsements, etc.
“I’ve heard nothing but good things about them. I’m a terrible businessman and deal maker so I’m glad to be able to turn over all that stuff to them.”
Brunson, undoubtedly looking forward to the start of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) on Wednesday, then blogged what may be the real reason he signed up with Poker Royalty: “As I recall, they have a suite right outside the tournament area that will be handy for bathroom breaks. That will be cool because it’s hard to get to the bathroom during the WSOP. All the fans want pictures and autographs and you seem like a jerk if you don’t talk to them.”
According to the Poker Royalty website (www.pokerroyalty.com), the agency was founded in 2003 by poker agent Brian Balsbaugh and is a “Las Vegas-based, privately-owned and -operated full-service poker player management, marketing and representation firm specializing in the poker industry” as well as a “one-stop shop for poker-related representation, marketing, corporate poker consulting, event management, poker speaking, appearance requests and licensing opportunities.”
The website also notes that Poker Royalty currently represents poker pros Josh Arieh, Johnny “The Orient Express”? Chan, T.J. Cloutier, Hoyt Corkins, Bill Edler, Antonio “The Magician” Esfandiari, Ted Forrest, Gus “The Great Dane”? Hansen, Phil “Poker Brat” Hellmuth Jr., Erick Lindgren, Jeff Madsen, Michael “The Grinder”? Mizrachi, Carlos “The Matador”? Mortensen, Daniel “Kid Poker”? Negreanu, Evelyn Ng, Scotty Nguyen, David Pham, Greg “Fossilman”? Raymer, Gavin Smith, Cyndy Violette, David Williams and Paul Wasicka, as well as pro wannabes Jason Alexander, Dr. Jerry Buss, Orel Hershiser and Cindy Margolis.
