A 27-year-old college dropout-turned-poker pro is the latest winner at
the 2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas.
The dropout/pro, Jordan Smith of Tool, Texas, USA, won WSOP Event #36, a
no-limit Texas hold ‘em tournament that had a buy-in of $2,000, a prize
pool of about $3 million, a total of 1,695 entrants and 172 payouts.

A 37-year-old former professional hockey player from Canada has scored
big at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas.
Greg Mueller, of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, has won 2009 WSOP
Event #33, a limit Texas hold ‘em tournament that had a buy-in of
$10,000, a prize pool of about $1.7 million, 185 entrants and 18
payouts.

For just the second time in history, a Mexican has won a tournament at
the World Series of Poker (WSOP).
He is Angel “Boloban” Guillen and he has won 2009 WSOP Event #32, a
no-limit Texas hold ‘em tourney that had a $2,000 buy-in, a prize pool
of about $2.8 million, a total of 1,534 entrants and 171 payouts.

Vietnamese refugee J.C. Tran has won his second career World Series of
Poker (WSOP) championship gold bracelet.
Competing at the 2009 WSOP in Las
Vegas, Tran won WSOP Event #30, a pot-limit Omaha tournament that had a
$2,500 buy-in, a prize pool of about $1 million, 436 participants and 45
payouts.

Phil “Poker Brat” Hellmuth Jr. for the all-time lead has fallen short.
Instead, Chan remains tied for second-place on the list with Doyle
“Texas Dolly” Brunson at 10 bracelets won.

cards and became a poker pro has won big at the 2009 World Series of
Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas.
Nick Schulman of New York City, New York, USA, has won WSOP Event #23, a
2-7 draw lowball tournament that had a buy-in of $10,000, a prize pool
of about $900,000, a total of 96 entrants and 14 payouts.

Carris, who is originally from Wadworth, Ohio, USA, but moved to Las
Vegas, Nevada, USA, two years ago to pursue a career as a professional
poker player, has won Event #22 at the WSOP in Las Vegas.

Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., USA, earlier this week and killed a
security guard is involved in the online gambling business,

James W. von Brunn, an 88-year-old U.S. military veteran and white
supremacist, was arrested after the Wednesday shooting, which killed

Two of the best and most famous poker players in the world came close to
winning another championship gold bracelet at the 2009 World Series of
Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas before a little-known pro escaped with the
victory.
The drama came in Event #18, an Omaha hi-lo tournament that had a
$10,000 buy-in, a $1.7 million prize pool, 179 entrants and 18 payouts.

The tourney, officially WSOP Event #17, was a no-limit Texas hold ‘em

Federal authorities in the USA have frozen and seized bank accounts
worth about $34 million that belong to 27,000 online poker players.
According to media reports, the office of the U.S. Attorney for the
Southern District of New York froze or issued seizure orders last week
for bank accounts in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Arizona at Wells
Fargo, Citibank, Goldwater Bank and Alliance Bank of Arizona.

Government officials in the State of Minnesota announced this week that
they have backed off in their efforts to prevent residents of the state
from playing online poker and other forms of online gambling.
Officials from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s Alcohol and
Gambling Enforcement Division last month asked 11 Internet service
providers (ISPs) to block state residents’ access to over 200 online
gambling sites, including many online poker sites.

Canadian poker sensation Daniel “Kid Poker” Negreanu has been thwarted
in his effort to gain the fifth World Series of Poker (WSOP)
championship gold bracelet of his career.
After leading in chips for most of the tournament, Negreanu choked at
the end and let unknown Brock Parker eke out a victory in Event #14 at
the 2009 WSOP in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
