Instant Replay at WSOP

Written by Tom Somach in Poker News

It’s been a good year for guys named Barack.

And Brock.

Just days after winning Event #14 at the 2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas, poker pro Brock Parker has won Event #19.

Two WSOP championship gold bracelets in less than a week–amazing!

Event #19 was a six-handed, no-limit Texas hold ‘em tournament with a $2,500 buy-in and a prize pool of about $2.4 million.

There were 1,068 entrants in the event and the top 108 finishers received cash payouts.

For winning, Parker, of Silver Springs, Maryland, USA, earned $552,745.

The runnerup was Joe Serock of San Francisco, California, USA, who earned $341,783.

Taking third was Russell Crane of Howell, New Jersey, USA, who earned $220,633.

Big names finishing in the money include Men “The Master” Nguyen in 16th place, Erick Lindgren in 29th and Howard “The Professor” Lederer in 30th.

At his post-tournament news conference at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, where the WSOP is taking place until early July, Parker said: “I can’t describe this. This is just unreal. It actually does not feel real to me.”

Asked why he is so successful at six-handed poker, he explained: “I like to play more hands. Playing nine-handed is pretty boring. I guess six-handed gets more motivated because I get to play in a lot of pots. It’s more fun. It’s more enjoyable to mix it up and play in more pots.”

He added: “I don’t know if people are afraid, but they think I’m running good. They want to say out of my way and that helps with my confidence and lets me pull off things I might not otherwise pull off. I get to go with my gut a little bit more.” ? Event #14, which earned Parker his first career WSOP championship gold bracelet a few days ago, was a six-handed, limit Texas hold ‘em tourney that had a $2,500 buy-in, a prize pool of about $844,000, a total of 367 entrants and a total of 36 payouts.

For that victory, Parker, 27, earned $223,697.
