Italian-Australian poker pro Jeffrey “The Iceman” Lisandro just might like that combination to celebrate.
After all, he has just won Event #16 at the 2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, earning the second WSOP championship gold bracelet of his career.
Event #16 was a seven-card stud tournament with a $1,500 buy-in, a prize pool of about a half-million dollars, 359 entrants and 40 payouts.
For the win, “The Iceman,” who was born in Perth, Australia, and now resides in Salerno, Italy, earns $124,959.
The runnerup was Rod Pardey of Seattle, Washington, USA, earning $77,230.
Copping third was Steve Stencil of Estacada, Oregon, USA, earning $50,626.
Other notable finishers in the event include John Juanda in fifth place, Pardey’s nephew Eric Pardey in sixth, “Miami” John Cernuto in 11th and Barbara Enright, the only woman in history to make the final table of a WSOP Main Event, in 19th.?
In addition to victories in two WSOP events in his career, tournament records show that Lisandro has made the final table of a WSOP event 10 times and has finished in the money in a WSOP event 27 times.
His other gold bracelet came in a seven-card stud tournament at the 2007 WSOP.
The record also show that seven other players in WSOP history have won two gold bracelets in seven-card stud tournaments and another has won three.
The double-winners besides Lisandro are Johnny Moss, Bones Berland, Marty Sigel, Ted Forrest, Mel Judah, Rod Pardey and Men “The Master” Nguyen.
The triple-winner is Artie Cobb.
Lisandro has now won a total of approximately $3.3 million in his career playing tournament poker, which includes both WSOP and non-WSOP events. ?
His biggest single payday remains the $659,730 he won by finishing in 17th place at the 2006 WSOP Main Event.
After each WSOP tourney is completed, the winner is presented a championship gold bracelet at a special ceremony in which the winner’s national anthem is played.
Asked whether he preferred to hear the Australian or Italian anthem, “The Iceman” chose the Aussie tune.
