Triple Crown for Scribe
Written by Tom Somach in Poker NewsA writer for a British poker magazine has won a tournament at the 2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas.
He is Roland de Wolfe of London, England, and he has won ‘09 WSOP Event #27.
The event was a pot-limit Omaha hi-lo 8 or better tourney that had a $5,000 buy-in, a total prize pool of almost $1 million, 198 entrants and 18 payouts.
For the victory, de Wolfe, 29, who writes for poker mag “Inside Poker” and is also a poker pro, earns $246,616 and his first career WSOP championship gold bracelet.
The runnerup was Brett Richey of Boston, Massachusetts, USA, who earns $152,618.
Taking third was Scott Clements of Mount Vernon, Washington, USA, who earns $101,063.
Top poker names finishing in the money in the event were Alex “The Mad Russian” Kravchenko in fifth place, Andy Black in sixth, Andy Bloch in 13th and Jeffrey “The Iceman” Lisandro in 17th.
The victory by de Wolfe means he has now won the so-called Triple Crown of Poker.
He has won tourneys in each of three largest poker tournament series: the WSOP, the World Poker Tour (WPT) and the European Poker Tour (EPT).
He won a WPT tourney in Paris, France in 2005 and an EPT tourney in Dublin, Ireland in 2006.
The only other person to win the Triple Crown of Poker is Gavin Griffin.
