A European Poker Tour (EPT) tournament scheduled next month for Moscow,
Russia, has been cancelled because gambling was recently made illegal in
Russia.
According to media reports, the cancelled event, which was to have been
known as EPT Moscow and held August 18-23, 2009, in a Moscow casino, has
been rescheduled and relocated to the Ukraine, a nearby country.

American cable sports television network ESPN is to begin its coverage
of the 2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP) on Tuesday, July 28, 2009.
The coverage will air from 8-10 p.m. Eastern Time in the USA.
WSOP coverage on ESPN will continue each Tuesday thereafter, through
Tuesday, November 10, 2009, when final table action for the 2009 WSOP
Main Event will be shown.

Internet sportsbooks around the world have issued new betting odds on
who will win the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event, now that the
playing field has been reduced to a final table of nine players.
One of the sportsbooks offering WSOP odds that are typical is Costa
Rica-based Bet U.S. (www.betus.com), which lists final table chip-leader
Darvin Moon as the favorite to win the Main Event at odds of +325.

been set.
Late Wednesday night at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas,
Nevada, USA, a field that began with 6,494 players on July 3 was
whittled down to a final nine players–the men who will comprise the
final table.

Just 1% of the starting field at the 2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP)
Main Event were left as the tournament entered its 12th day on Tuesday.
A total of 64 poker players out of the starting field of 6,494 began
play Tuesday at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada,
USA, where the Main Event of the 40th annual WSOP is taking place.

A charity poker tournament held during the 2009 World Series of Poker
(WSOP) in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA raised $362,000 for African refugees.
The event, the third annual Ante Up For Africa tourney, was held earlier
this month at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino and was co-hosted by
actor Don Cheadle and poker pro Annie Duke.

Lebanese-Australian poker pro Joe Hachem is the latest professional
poker player to have an ego huge enough to believe the world is
interested in his life story.
As such, he has just published his autobiography, titled “Pass the
Sugar,” which was ostensibly written by him but was actually
ghost-written by co-author Peter Ralph.

Among the celebrities who have been seen at the ongoing 2009 World
Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas is U.S. Congressman Barney Frank.
But Frank, a Democrat from Massachusetts, isn’t there to play poker or
even mingle with fellow celebs such as actor Lou Diamond Phillips or
poker pro Doyle “Texas Dolly” Brunson.

An Australian thug who robbed an American poker player outside an
Australian casino last year has been sentenced to four years in prison.
According to media reports, Dwayne Johnstone, 33, of Melbourne,
Australia, robbed Jason Potter of his poker winnings after Potter left a
poker tournament at the Crown Casino in Melbourne in January of 2008.

After eight days of play at the Main Event of the 2009 World Series of
Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas, a total of 789 players remained alive for the
championship.
The Main Event began on Friday, July 3, 2009, with 6,494 entrants, the
third-highest total for a Main Event in WSOP history.

in Las Vegas.
The actual Main Event, of course, is the final event, Event #57, a
no-limit Texas hold ‘em tournament with a buy-in or entry fee of
$10,000.

After just missing in a chance to win his second career World Series of
Poker championship gold bracelet, poker pro Brandon Cantu has won his
second career World Series of Poker championship gold bracelet.
Cantu, 28, originally from Vancouver, Washington, USA, and now relocated
to Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, last month came in second in Event #39, a
no-limit Texas hold ‘em tournament, at the 2009 WSOP in Vegas.
