Christophe Savary has won the Main Event at the World Poker Tour’s
Marrakech stop.
The Main Event was a no-limit Texas hold ‘em tournament with 416
entrants and a buy-in of 4,500 euros, or about 6,700 U.S. dollars.

A poker-playing priest has won $100,000 playing poker on a TV show–and
he plans to donate all his winnings to his church!
According to media reports, Father Andrew Trapp, the assistant pastor at
St. Michael Catholic Church in Garden City Beach, South Carolina, USA,
won the $100,000 on a poker television show called “Million Dollar
Challenge” on the FOX network.

Simon Watt has won the Main Event at the Asia Pacific Poker Tour’s
Auckland stop.
The Main Event, a no-limit Texas hold ‘em tournament with a buy-in of
3,000 New Zealand dollars (NZD), or about $2,300 U.S., had 263 entrants
and took place at the Sky City Casino in Auckland, New Zealand’s largest
city.

Victoria Coren of England is the latest professional poker player to pen
an autobiography.
Coren, 36, from capital city London, has just written “For Richer, For
Poorer,” the tale of her not-that-long a journey through the wars of
professional poker.

Mike Sexton will be the lone 2009 inductee into the Poker Hall of Fame.
According to media reports, Sexton, one of nine nominees up for Hall of
Fame induction this year, was the only nominee to receive enough votes
to qualify.

The 2009 Aruba Poker Classic Championship, one of the biggest poker
tournaments in the world not affiliated with the World Series of Poker,
has been won by American Brandon Hall.
For the victory, Hall, of Littlestown, Pennsylvania, USA, earns
three-quarters of a million dollars–$753,330 to be exact.

Online poker room Party Poker has hired Italian professional race car
driver Giancarlo Fisichella as a paid flack for its Italian-language
website, www.partypoker.it.
According to a press release from Party Poker, Fisichella, 36, a
champion Formula 1 driver, will officially serve as an “ambassador” for
the room’s Italian site.

The 2009 World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) Main Event has been won by
the publisher of a poker magazine!
American Barry Shulman, publisher, owner and chief executive officer of
Card Player magazine, Friday in London, England, won Event #4 at the
third annual WSOPE, the Main Event, a no-limit Texas hold ‘em tournament
with with a buy-in of 10,000 British pounds (about $16,000 U.S.).
