Phil “Poker Brat” Hellmuth Jr., who has won the WSOP Main Event twice,
leads the pack with a total of 11 WSOP bracelets won in his career.

American poker pro Phil “The Unabomber” Laak, best known until now for
his resemblance to the 20th-century killer who sent letter bombs through
the mail, is hoping for a new claim to fame–poker endurance!
Laak announced this week that he plans to challenge the Guiness Book of
World Records mark for continuous poker-playing.

only has been named after one of the game’s top players–Phil “Poison”
Ivey.
The Aria casino in Vegas announced its new poker room, which opens
today, will be called the Ivey Room at the Aria.

One of the most successful professional poker players in the world is a
deadbeat.
The Sun-Sentinel, a newspaper in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA, reported
this week that poker pro Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi, who has earned
almost $7 million in his career playing offline tournament poker, owes
the U.S. government more than $339,000 in unpaid Federal back taxes.

Norwegian poker sensation Annette Obrestad has been signed to flack for
online poker room Full Tilt Poker (www.fulltiltpoker.com), the room
announced.
Obrestad, who recently celebrated her 21st birthday, had flacked for a
competitor, Betfair Poker (www.betfair.com), for the past three years.
She came to world attention in 2007 in London, England when she won the
Main Event of the inaugural World Series of Poker Europe and, at age 18,
became the youngest person ever to win a WSOP or WSOPE event.

American TV morning show host George Stephanopoulos will play against
top poker pros as part of a stunt for sweeps month.
Stephanopoulos, co-host of “Good Morning, America” on ABC-TV, taped the
poker-playing segment last week at the Harrah’s casino in Atlantic City,
New Jersey, USA, according to network sources.
